Glucose tolerance test

Glucose tolerance test in pregnant women

On the day of the glucose tolerance test, you will be given a glucose solution containing 75 g of glucose to drink. We measure your blood sugar beforehand on an empty stomach, after 1 hour and after 2 hours.
You should come to the test on an empty stomach and have not eaten anything in the last 10 hours. For the three days before the test, you should eat a diet rich in carbohydrates (bread, potatoes, pasta, rice and fruit), as this is the only way to achieve a meaningful result.
You have to stay in our practice during the test. You must not walk around, otherwise the blood sugar values could be falsified.
After the two-hour figure has been taken, you can eat and drink and the result will be discussed immediately. If the suspicion of gestational diabetes is confirmed, you will receive nutritional advice and training in the use of the blood glucose meter on the same day. After a week there will be a re-presentation with a discussion of the self-measured values and a discussion of any questions.
